Living abroad over many years, often moving from one country and city to another, has prompted a family of five to ensure a permanent base to bring them together from different parts of the world during shared holidays. They have found such a place on an island where the parents spent their vacations as children, thereby connecting their anchor point of life and memory with the future spatial one. They have discovered it at a neglected and overgrown coastal terraced plot above the congested Palit settlement, located outside the city of Rab. Situated amidst the unregulated tourist part of the city and the forest, overlooking the Eufemija cove and Kampor valley, the inaccessible parcel was, despite the challenging conditions, one of the reasons why this young family decided to venture into realizing a house at exactly this location.

An old palm tree at the entrance was a hallmark of this neglected terrain and harbinger of future panoramas. There was a small house with a large roofed terrace and a separate storage room, with high stone walls separating it from the road and supporting the terraced garden. The new volume was annexed onto the eastern perimeter not to block the view of the existing house and, simultaneously, to frame the view of the Frkanj peninsula and the islands of Cres and Lošinj. The new house project began as an annexe of the existing volumes and the character of the found structures and activities was embedded into the new complex. The existing amenities were wrapped into a wedge-shaped envelope, situating a new volume with a complementary floorplan vertically to it. They intersect at the former location of the roofed terrace which served as a summer kitchen and workshop: for the life in the open. The energy of that space was reproduced by a three-floor void above the dining room, the void which gathers the whole family via its visual and sound communication.
